Located on the mouth of the Norman River approximately 70 km from Normanton,
Karumba is the centre of the Gulf of Carpentaria fishing industry.

The local commercial fishing operations ensures there’s an abundance of fresh prawns, mudcrabs and other local seafood all year round. The flat wetlands and meandering saltwater estuaries that surround Karumba, are home to the saltwater crocodile, a vast array of bird species and the elusive barramundi, making it a favourite destination for the holidaymaker with a sense of adventure.

The gulf country guarantees daily sunshine during the tourist season, April to November, with the average daytime temperature around 29 degrees celcius. Karumba is serviced by a sealed road making it accessible to all vehicles, basically all year round.

The Karumba Lodge reflects all of the excitement and adventure the gulf country has to offer. Situated on absolute river frontage, the Karumba Lodge overlooks the Norman River in the centre of the main township of Karumba. This provides easy access to all the town’s facilities including the post office, bank, supermarket, fishing charters and river cruises. The Lodge also directly adjoins the town’s main boat ramp and pontoon providing very convenient access to the Norman River and the great fishing the Gulf of Carpentaria has to offer.
